Collection For Mountbatten 4th April
VHVC Ltd Collection in St Thomas’ Sq Newport for Mountbatten Hospice 4th April 2026
Following the cancellation of the Dec 2025 Christmas Collection, it was decided to have an Easter event. Watching the weather all week it kept changing from dry to wet. As the day dawned on Saturday 4th, we were greeted with grey skies and light drizzle. Congratulations and thanks to the 12 brave souls who made the journey through the murk. As the drizzle continued for the next hour and footfall was low, our optimism paid off as by 11 it was dry and people were beginning to walk through the square. Donations were spasmodic, but when given, gratefully received. One lady asked did we accept copper coins, answering in the affirmative she produced two large bags of 2p pieces. I am sure our treasurer will be overjoyed to count them! The day continued with visits to the nearby Chippie until 2.30pm when everyone was getting cold and uncomfortable with the stiff breeze blowing. Joe Kitney relieved us of our collection buckets to be counted in due course. Many thanks to all who attended. The brave souls were.
