Kevin Frank Froment ‘Kev’
23rd May 1960 – 22nd July 2025
I’d Rather See You Smiling
You must not think that I have gone
Please don’t grieve or pine
I’d rather see you smilling
Laughing – working – looking fine.
Death is an exciting key
Which opens many doors
It leads up into other worlds
Quite similar to yours
Life is not an accident
Death is not the end
God designed a mystery
Life and death do blend
So do not think that I have gone
Please don’t brood or pine
I’d rather see you smiling
Laughing – working – looking fine.
REST IN PEACE KEVIN
Kevin Froment VHVC Ltd Tribute
I would like to summarise the role Kevin had in the Vectis Historic Vehicle Club Ltd.
As you will all know, Kevin had an interest in many things, having spent a lot of his working life on many different skills as you will have heard already.
But none more so than in Classic Vehicles and the individuals who owned them, he would tour round at the events speaking to to as many people as he could while photographing their cars.
I first met Kevin at an AGM many years ago, where he was enthusiastically proposed by Sandra to join the committee, it was his nature to be involved, so it wasn’t long before he became an active member and then taking on the role of Newsletter Editor. In typical fashion he persisted with learning the vagaries of the software to become very proficient, with the help of a string of variable swearwords which were obviously an important part of the procedure.
He would spend hours searching the internet to include car related items into the magazine. While also persuading various members to write articles of events the club attended. The quiz pages and puzzles were possibly eclipsed by the endless non-politically correct jokes included.
He also took on the role of membership secretary and would deliver the welcome pack by hand with Sandra as his runner.
His very active role in the club will be very difficult to fill in the future
The whole club as well as all of you here today, will remember a man with a smile on his face, endless enthusiasm, unique skills and a love of all classic vehicles along with the lasting respect and friendship of the people in clubs Island wide that owned them.
We remember Kev as a man with a wicked sense of humour, the tales of his exploits as a schoolboy and later in life kept us in stitches. Driving a car to school at 12 years of age, parking round the corner from the school and walking 50 yard the rest of the way. Fitting a 150cc engine into a 50cc Moped but not upgrading the brakes.
Only recently did we hear of his one and only visit to a bingo session, where bored, he spent more time with his marker pens on his grandchild, who returned home looking like she had measles.
We are unlikely see his like again (He was, simply a man in a million)
We remember him in the club with great affection, as a man who was universally liked and respected by all who knew him. Rest easy Kevin
