VHVC Ltd Open Day Sunday 19th July at The Northwood Showground Themed : Celebration of Vehicles Through the Ages Before the day of the show much work was required on Thursday and Friday before the show. The people involved in this essential preparation of marking out the parking areas, stall holder positions and erection of a 180metre fence, should not go unmentioned, they were Joe Kitney, Bill Rasmussen, Chris Richards, Mike Brackstone ,Tim De Bues, Kevin & Karen Attwood & Roy Burfield. In addition to the above, more members assisted with final preparations on the Saturday/Sunday, Gazebo erection, Flags and Bunting. Who were : Carl Horrocks, Vickie Rasmussen, Richard and Beverley Charnley, Kevin Farrow, Steve Walker, Fred and Clare Henderson, Julie Hallet and her two lads, Dave Batchelor, Steve and Sam Smith, Sandra Froment & Denis Rumbold. Unfortunately, during the late afternoon on the Saturday, the wind destroyed the club gazebo and had to be hastily replaced by two smaller ones strapped together, supplied by Mike Brackstone and Chris Richards. The day of the show dawned sunny, with a light cooling breeze, The stall holders arrived and soon positioned on their designated areas, those needing power near the Generator. By 10am all the Classic Cars, Visitors and Club Members had been marshalled into their positions. In total 100 classics were on show. As the public were marshalled in by the SARS group, they were able to enjoy performances by The Wolfguard Viking re-enactment group set up in their tented village, Roy on his Banjo, Randini the Magician entertaining children and adults, and Double Take two girl singers. Sam and Mia Smith sold raffle tickets from the club gazebo and walked the field selling even more tickets, for the very good number of prizes. It was noticeable that public footfall was lighter than we had hoped. At 12pm the High Sheriff Nigel Hartley MBE arrived by 1937 Ford Model Y, his opening speech included praise for the donations made by the club to Mountbatten Hospice as well as Breathe Easy for all those with lung conditions. The show, being dedicated to Kevin Froment our long serving Newsletter editor who sadly passed away last July. He also welcomed everyone to enjoy the show. Our Judge this year with the difficult job of choosing Cars, Motor bikes and Trikes was Geoff Underwood OBE and I.W Deputy Lieutenant accompanied around the vehicles by Jenny Belford as guide and scribe. With other events taking place on the Island on the same day. Public footfall into the show was not what we had hoped for. Which has resulted in a disappointing £ 348.10 overall profit.
