Wight Wheels Car Show 14th June 2026 The trip from Sandown to Chale proved to be more than eventful. Taking the MGF to the show, I only got a far as Niton and lost the use of engaging any gears to get forward motion. Of course, this happened on a steep rise turning by the White Lion, with traffic building up behind me. Luckily three guys going to the show jumped out and pushed me into a safe place. Not having a clue what the problem was I called the AA, after much form filling on my phone a breakdown van showed on the google map. 30mins later an RAC van arrived ????. Expecting a problem with this, but no, he went straight to the gear lever cover and showed me where the cup and ball joint had parted company. Pressing it back together with long nose pliers, he followed me back to Lake to see if all was ok. Not wanting it to happen again I kept in 2nd gear all the way back to ensure no further repeat of the problem. So, by the time I got back on the road in another car, I arrived around 11.30ish where the VHVC Guys and Girls had saved me a parking place and told the Marshalls who directed me to where they were. Thanks to them all. The attendance at the show was amazing, there must have been nearly 300 Classics on show, with many stalls and food outlets. Nice to sit with the cars and enjoy chatting to the public and banter with many. Surprisingly cars were leaving at regular intervals with no marshalling out. Great entertainment from a passing Spitfire that did several acrobatic manoeuvres overhead. By 3.30pm we drifted off home from a well organised and popular organised show by Ken and Jayne Bloomfield with their American Group members. Peter Hodgson
